What If I Told You I Used to Think I Was Not A Leader?

Leader? If you would have asked me as an adolescent, teen or even young adult, I never thought I’d assume the role of leader, let alone embrace it. It always seemed like a title too large for me. For one reason or another I felt unequipped - almost undeserving of the responsibility to lead with competency, transparency, and humility. There is so much more to leadership, but I shied away from it. I was absolutely afraid.

Have you ever felt this way as a leader?! Guess what?! It’s absolutely ok!!! The key is NOT to stay in that place. Somewhere in my late 20s, 30s I gained a true sense of self-awareness. That self-awareness help me assess the path I’d taken up until that point and realized that it had been a path riddled with leadership, even as early as my teens. Today, I wear leadership proudly on my chest. Clearly understanding the responsibility, but knowing that I am equipped, I must be willing to keep growing respectively, and have an honest desire to help foster future leaders.

Leadership is NOT a comfortable place. It’s a place consistently challenged. Consistently mounted upon the shoulders that came before and grounded and rooted for those to follow.

Don’t allow fear to keep you from leading. Wear the badge of leadership proudly-ready to push the next to the same or greater level. Trust your purpose. Confidently walk the path. Help foster the purpose in others.
